Director of Engineering

Power Automation Systems (PAS), a provider of large scale, automated material handling products in Northern California’s central valley, is currently seeking an Engineering Manager.  


  


The Engineering Manager manages and directs the Engineering Department, which researches, plans and designs large scale mechanical and electro-mechanical material handling systems and products. He or she will direct and coordinate activities involved in the design, documentation, fabrication, operation, application, installation, test and repair of mechanical or electro-mechanical products and systems for our domestic and international customers. This highly visible position demands strong and skillful management skills (personnel and projects), energetic customer interactions, as well as superior sales support.


 


Successful candidates will have advanced experience in machine design using AutoCAD, Solid-works and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite software, including MS Project. Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and structural engineering is required, along with software controls and automation experience.  He/she must have a proven track record in setting goals, achieving results and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-project environment. Again, strong leadership, management and communication skills are essential. Travel required, as appropriate.


           


 


   Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 


 



  • Supervise, manage and provide leadership to the engineering department.  Perform complex assignments relating to the design, implementation and evaluation of mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical assemblies, specifically as they relate to material handling systems.

  • Good organizational, managerial skills – role models professionalism in all interactions, internally and externally.

  • Develop and maintain engineering resources, processes, capabilities and best practices.

  • Technical background should encompass a full range of fabrication processes.

  • Organize, plan, lead and manage team projects in alignment with project goals.

  • Research and analyze data such as customer requests and specifications to determine feasibility of design.

  • Specify, design and document systems considering performance, regulatory requirements, patents and corporate goals.

  • Manage process/project related activities with other departments to ensure projects conform to all regulatory and quality regulations.

  • Interface with and or Manage electrical and software resources as part of a cross-disciplinary design team.

  • Prototype designs using a variety of prototyping methodologies

  • Develop/improve products to ease manufacturing processes.

  • Stay up-to-date and follow all procedures related to this job that can affect the quality of products or services provided to our customers.

  • Ability to focus on and achieve scheduled milestones, including contingency planning.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


 


 


Supervisory Responsibilities:


 


He/she must carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the California Natural Products policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include delivering operating results to target, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; holding personnel accountable; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


 


 


Education and/or Experience:


 



  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering plus 10 years experience designing electro-mechanical devices/machinery. Material-handling systems and/or AS/AR systems experience and/or Automated Logistics systems preferred.

  • 10 years experience in advanced new product, systems level design work, preferably proficient with multiple design software systems.

  • Proven track record of successful new product development, product improvement using a variety of design tools and prototyping techniques.

  • Working knowledge of product planning and management software, such as M.S. Project.

  • Knowledge of FDA Quality System and Design Control requirements and their application to projects from design inception to manufacturing release.
